UK passport photo: photo code, apps and the Post Office

As of November 3, 2026, a UK online passport application takes a digital photo either with a photo code from a booth or shop or by taking one with your own device during the application, and the photo must be from the last month. Smartphone iD lists online photos with a code from £6, and the Post Office’s Digital Check & Send costs £16.00 with the photo included. SelfieToPassport makes a UK passport photo file for $6.95 but does not issue a photo code.

GOV.UK gives two ways to add a digital photo to an online application: enter the code from a booth or shop, or take the photo with your own device while you apply, with someone to help.
