How the State Department counts the wait

The “next available appointment” is the State Department’s estimate of when a new applicant can get an interview at that post. The average wait, shown only for some posts, is measured from paying the fee to the interview date in the previous month.

The rules

  • The State Department updates its visa interview wait time table once a month. travel.state.gov
  • In the wait time table, a month means 30 days and a half month 15 days, counting weekends and the holidays when embassies are closed. travel.state.gov
