How this comparison works

Each price below comes from the service’s own page, read on November 4, 2026 from a U.S. connection. We compare what the pages state: the price, whether you see the photo before you pay, and whether the file fits the portal. We do not score or rank the apps.

The India e-Visa and the OCI card use different portals with different limits, so check which file an app makes before you pay. A photo outside the rules can get either application rejected.

The rules

  • An India e-Visa application can be rejected when the uploaded photograph or documents are not clear or do not follow the specification. indianvisaonline.gov.in
  • The OCI portal warns that photos outside its standards are rejected and can delay processing. ociservices.gov.in

The India e-Visa file

The e-Visa portal asks for a square JPEG of at least 10 KB and no more than 1 MB, on a plain light-colored or white background. It sets no pixel size.

Passport Photo Guru and OpenPhotoId state the e-Visa limit on their pages, and Visafoto has a page for this portal.

The rules

  • The India e-Visa portal takes the applicant’s photo as a JPEG file of at least 10 KB and no more than 1 MB. indianvisaonline.gov.in

The OCI file

The OCI portal asks for a square JPEG of 200 x 200 to 900 x 900 pixels, 200 KB or less, on a plain light background that is not white.

Passport Self’s OCI tool lists a 500 KB maximum and up to 3500 x 3500 pixels; the OCI FAQ we read on October 25, 2026 says 200 KB and 900 x 900 pixels. If the portal shows a limit on the upload screen, follow the portal.

The rules

  • The OCI upload has to be square, at least 200 x 200 pixels and at most 900 x 900 pixels. ociservices.gov.in
  • Both the photo and the signature uploaded for an OCI card must be JPEG or JPG files of 200 KB or less. ociservices.gov.in
  • For an OCI application, the background must be a plain light color but not white, with no border, and the photo shows the head and shoulders with the full face in the middle. ociservices.gov.in

What SelfieToPassport does

SelfieToPassport crops, sizes and compresses the photo in your browser: a 600 x 600 pixel JPEG between 10 KB and 1 MB for the e-Visa, or a 600 x 600 pixel JPEG under 200 KB for the OCI. It does not replace the background or retouch the face, so for the OCI take the photo against a light wall that is not white.

The preview with the measurements is free. The file costs $6.95 per person and document, once, with up to 3 photos for the same document within 30 days of purchase.

The rule

  • Retouching, enhancing or softening an OCI photo is not allowed by the specification. ociservices.gov.in
