Questions people ask

What size is a Vietnam e-visa photo?

Four by six centimeters, upright. That makes it a 2:3 rectangle, taller than it is wide, and not a square. The official guide stops there: it sets no head height, eye line or pixel count.

Since the photo is uploaded rather than mailed, the proportion is what counts. Crop a sharp, recent picture to 4 x 6 and make sure the face points straight at the lens.

What file does the Vietnam e-visa portal accept for the photo?

A JPG or JPEG below 2 MB. The same first step asks for an image of the biometric passport, and the portal reads the personal details from it.

Both images are then checked automatically. A passport image that fails the check stops the application, so a clean upload saves a second attempt; the fee, once paid, is not returned if the visa is refused.

Common reasons a photo is turned down

  1. When the passport image fails the automatic check, Vietnam’s e-visa system does not let the application go through. evisa.gov.vn
  2. Vietnam collects the e-visa fee online through the portal and keeps it if the visa is not granted. evisa.gov.vn
