Questions people ask

What size is a Brazil e-visa photo?

The e-visa portal’s photo specification asks for a color picture of 3.5 x 4.5 cm, or 413 x 531 pixels: an upright rectangle, not a square. Leave space above the head, keep the head and chin whole, and show the shoulders.

Some Brazilian consulate pages in the U.S., such as San Francisco’s and Miami’s, still describe a 2 x 2 inch passport-style photo. The portal, where the file is actually uploaded, tells applicants to follow its document specification to avoid processing delays.

What file does the Brazil e-visa portal accept for the photo?

A JPEG or JPG of up to 2 MB for the portrait, plus a separate color image of the passport bio page. The specification rules out using or cropping the portrait from that bio page.

An upload only succeeds when the file type and size match what the upload step shows, according to the portal’s own help answers.

Do you need a printed photo for the Brazil e-visa?

In most cases, no. Brazil’s consulates in Los Angeles and New York describe the e-visa as 100% online with no physical documents, and an approved e-visa is sent by email.

Chicago’s consulate page is the exception: it says a hard copy on photo-quality paper is mandatory along with the upload. Applicants in that consulate’s area may want a print ready.

Is brazil.vfsevisa.com the official site for the Brazil e-visa?

VFS does not decide the outcome; the application goes to a Brazilian consular post for analysis. Can I use a 2 x 2 U.S. passport photo for the Brazil e-visa?
