Ghana passport photo requirements
As of October 27, 2026, Ghana’s passport portal takes an uploaded 140 x 170 pixel photo on a white background, taken within 6 months; another photo is taken at the biometrics visit (per passport.mfa.gov.gh, checked on Oct 27, 2026).
Ghana’s passport office takes a second photo at the Passport Application Centre during enrolment and tells applicants not to arrive in white clothing.
Glasses and sunglasses are left off a Ghanaian passport photo unless they are worn for medical reasons.
The portal at passport.mfa.gov.gh lists the uploaded photo as 140 x 170 pixels, described as standard passport size, in JPEG or PDF format. The size cap depends on the mission: somewhere between 250 KB and 1 MB, so a file under 250 KB works everywhere.
The picture goes into Section 1 of the online form, with your personal details. No printed size in millimeters or inches is published, and neither is a head measurement.

No glasses or sunglasses unless medical, no headgear unless religious, and no large earrings. These rules follow ICAO standards, and photos that miss them are a known cause of delays.
Both happen. You upload a photo with the online application, and at your appointment the Passport Application Centre captures another one with your fingerprints and signature. In the U.S. the centres are the Embassy in Washington, DC and the Consulate General in New York.
Avoid white clothing on the day, and make sure you look like the photo you uploaded. Everyone attends in person, children too.
